Vitamins and eyes well-being ( Vitamin A)

Eyes, as all other organs, take benefit from food also and vitamins that they contain.

Vitamin A and its precursors (particularly beta carotene) are involved in crepuscular and daily vision's dynamics. As a consequence, Vitamin A deficiency brings to a deficit in night vision and to xerophthalmia (eye dryness and blindness caused by corneal opacity ). That's why this important vitamin represent the necessary ingredient for eyes well-being.

Vitamin A scarcity could provoke serious consequences for sight: eyes fatiguing, light sensitivity, eyelids dryness, loweing of immunitary defenses, with consequently increased tendency to allergies, ulceration, and in cases of extreme seriousness, total irreversible blindess .

vitamin A, deficiency, nonethelss, are unlikely, considered that nature offers us various alimonies rich in this vitamin; besides carrots, also pumpkin, milk, eggs, contain vitamin A . For example, it is enough to eat half of a carrot to satisfy the daily need of Vitamin A for our organism.

As we analyzed, carotenoids are the pigmens taht color the vegetables with the typical bright colors : among them it stands out lutenis and zeaxantin, two substances that prevent eyes' injuries. Lutein is known for its anti-  radicals and sight protective properties : it is contained in spinaches, lettuce, peas and cabbage. Whereas, Zeaxantin is present in peppers,  corn, egg yolk, mango  and spinaches : its deficiency could determin blindness in old people.
